Interview with Author Elise VanCise

Posted on May 25, 2011

I met Elise through the Fellow Writers group on Facebook. She has a fresh take on the paranormal genre, with some really interesting plots. And she was a fan of My Own Worst Enemy, which makes me smile.

Tell me about your books.

I have three books out now here is a bit about each of them.

In the Dark
Parapsychologist Aaron Hewitt gets more than a new job and a new home after losing everything including his long term vixen girlfriend. Aaron has been looking for ghosts all over the ancient city of St. Augustine when all he had to do was look at home. What begins as a study of the spirit in his home leads Aaron on a journey to many local haunts and more than a friendship with Sarah. Can true love overcome the grave? Or will lust and jealousy tear it apart.

Don’t Touch
Dr. Ryan Reign has unlocked a gift she believes is more of a curse. Detective Jackson Prince and his partner need her help to stop a serial killer before he kills again. Once problem Dr. Reign can’t touch or be touched. Can the hard as nails cop Jackson find a way to touch her heart without touching her skin in order to stop the bloodshed?

HALF
As Valeska Gorstef begins this journey, will she find the human life she wants but thought was impossible or will she have to give in to her darker half to save all she cares about? Her blood runs both hot and cold. Which Half will win?

What attracts you to the fantasy genre? Influences?

I have always been attracted to stories of the paranormal. I’ve had a few experiences that gave me thrills and chills to pull from as well. I think that the idea of something else around us we just can’t explain is fascinating. There has to be some way to explain it so why not write about it and try J I love a good story with action, adventure, thrills, and a bit of romance thrown in.

Tell me about one of the characters in your novels or short stories.

I think one of my favorite characters is Dr. Ryan Reign. Ryan is a coroner who after a horrible car accident unlocked an ability to read objects by touch.  The ability manifested for the first time during the autopsy of a murder victim. It caused Ryan to seclude herself in her home. Afraid to go out or have anyone come in for fear of any more dark visions.

In Don’t Touch a detective comes knocking on her door needing her expertise as a doctor. Ryan knows that isn’t what Jackson Prince needs to solve the case before yet another victim is found.   She must embrace this gift and learn to use it. To solve the case and get her life back.

What are some of your favorite works of fiction?

Oh that’s a hard one. I have to say some of the classics such as Sherlock Holmes and Beowulf.  Others are Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, L.K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series.

Favorite TV show that never made it one full season.

Most recently was My Own Worst Enemy staring Christian Slater. It had an interesting premise of a man who had two personalities. One a sweet family man, the other a balls to the wall spy. The personalities lived completely separate until something went wrong and they started waking at inconvenient times.  Ending the season and not returning wouldn’t have been so bad. But they left us hanging after episode 4. Damn the powers that be! lol

What is your favorite line from Shakespeare?

“Action is eloquence.”  From  Coriolanus

Finish this: “Elise VanCise is in my favorite Cops episode. No, she’s not one of the police. Elise is that girl who ____.”

Conspired with a couple of rednecks to disassemble a manager’s car and put it on top of a building. VW Bug on top of house cost…2 cases of  Bud
Look on jerk manager’s face when he sees it…priceless

Where can we buy your stuff? or Anything on the horizon?

I’ve got a couple of books coming this fall.  One solo and one with my Writing Partner and Sis in Heart Rose Wade.
